The PRINTFLOODS Project
PRINTFLOODS (PRediction INTelligence for FLOODS) is a 2-year research fellowship project funded by AXA-Research Fund under the AXA & IOC-UNESCO’s Ocean Decade Joint Call for Fellows on Coastal Livelihood. The project is endorsed by IOC-UNESCO as UN Ocean Decade Action.
The project aims to strengthen coastal communities’ resilience through better forecasting and projecting compound flood risk. Using machine learning techniques, PRINTFLOODS seeks to advance existing state-of-the-art prediction models for coastal, riverine and compound flood risk to better inform decision-making. The applications that PRINTFLOODS aims to support are anticipatory humanitarian actions and index-based insurance, to reduce the impacts of floods induced by episodic extreme weather events like tropical cyclones, and by sea level rise caused by climate change.
